Location: Fairfield, AL – US Steel

Hours: 6/12’s – OT paid after 8 hr. shift

The Systems Group is looking for an energetic individual to be our next Refractory Technician. We are looking for someone to help with the day-to-day issues that pop up but to also be part of the big picture and contribute to the long-term strategy of our operations across the country. Refractory Technician: A skilled worker who installs, maintains, and repairs heat-resistant materials used in high-temperature industrial equipment like furnaces, kilns, and boilers.

Technician Responsibilities:

  • Applying refractory materials using methods like gunning, pouring, ramming, and bricklaying
  • Removing worn-out or damaged linings using specialized tools like hammers, chisels, and chipping guns
  • Mixing refractory compounds and performing preventive maintenance on installation tools
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings to ensure precise lining dimensions
  • Inspecting finished work for structural integrity an strictly following safety protocols for working in confined, high-heat environments

Experience and Requirements

  • Previous Refractory Technician experience required
  • Excellent Safety Record. Safety is our # 1 priority
  • Proficiency in masonry, welding, and understanding specialized materials like ceramic fiber and castable refractories
  • OSHA Approved Met-Guard boots (annual company allowance provided)
  • Knowledge of Structural fitting and Fabrication
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen
  • Must be able to pass Pulmonary & Fit test
